The standard that I'll be able to teach would be SL.5 "Use Digital Media". Being that my knowledge of computers is more advanced than some, I'll be able to show them some of the basics of technology. The students would be able to create basic Power Points and presentations. Also, they will be able to write a basic paper and enhance their technology skills.
As technology continues to expands, it's going to be incorporated into classrooms day to day activity. I plan to use all of Microsoft Office products, as well as, some fundamental games that will be available, usually already downloaded onto the computer. The students I plan to work with would be between the ages of 11 and 14 placing them in middle school. Therefore, the digital citizen concepts that I would need to teach them will include recognizing intellectual property and respect the rules for its use. This would be because I wouldn't want them creating any PowerPoints or anything that is inappropriate for school.
While completing the Newsletter Design assignment, I learned about customizing the boarders, something that I never really knew I could do. I thought the boarder could only be lines, and not necessarily an image. I like that I was able to use my own creativity in making a newsletter. I had a lot of fun with it, although it was a little challenging trying to think of something you could write about. Next time, I'll try to separate my sections more, possibly with an actual heading before each instead of a picture. In the future I will be able to create my own newsletter for my students inside of my classroom that I'll have in the future. It also helped me prepare on how I can make the newsletter readable for both students and the parents.
